Cuello Launches AlgaeCell, LLC to Promote Sustainability Through Accordian Photobioreactor
Another start-up has emerged developed by UArizona Biosystem’s Engineering professor Dr. Joel Cuello. Dr. Cuello and his team from the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences created a unique “Air Accordian Photobioreactor” from polyethylene material. The bioreactor has a unique “zigzag” formation that allowed Tech Launch Arizona (TLA) to commercialize Cuello’s invention. The start-up company AlgaeCell LLC aims to promote growth from microorganisms to make products within the supplement industry such as omega-3 fatty acids and spirulina (Brandt, 2021). As the start-up company AlgaeCell, LLC continues to grow, Cuello and CEO, Hamed Ismail, continue to promote sustainability by launching a first round of products that move away from traditional bioreactor methods that cause environmental degradation.
