BE students earned the UA College of Engineering Roger W. Gallagher Engineering Scholarships.
Biosystems Engineering students Andrew Masciola, Morgan Mattingly and Griffin Sherwood were awarded the UA College of Engineering Roger W. Gallagher Engineering Scholarships on 24 March 2022. The students were recognized during a College of Engineering Scholarship Reception followed by a dinner hosted by Dr. Gail Zitterkopf and Dr. Rich Gallagher, daughter and son of the late Roger Gallagher and trustees of the Gallagher estate. The dinner was also attended by the awardees’ professional advisors and major professors.
Jack Welchert Nabs First Place in Poster Competition at 2022 Arizona Water Association Research Symposium
Phoenix, AZ – Jack Welchert, BE Ph.D. Candidate, garnered First Place in the Poster Competition at the 2022 Arizona Water Association Research Symposium held on 22 March 2022 in Phoenix. His poster was titled, “Molecular Interaction Characterization Methods for Advanced PFAS Adsorption Matrices.”
The Symposium was attended by Faculty and students from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and The University of Arizona as well as by industry and utility leaders from Phoenix, Flagstaff and Tucson.
Jorge Ramos’ Venture Team Wins Recognition at McGuire Innovation Expo
Tucson, AZ – BE student Jorge Ramos’ venture XTRACT Optimized Ingredients, Inc. received the Investor’s Choice Award (2nd place) and the Venture Communication Award at the Sixth Annual McGuire Innovation Expo held on 17 February 2022. Joined by Alexa Charles, Connor Fletcher, Edmundo Hernandez and Jake Morden, Jorge’s venture team was one of 17 from the McGuire New Venture Development Program that participated in the trade show. XTRACT Inc. is a plant/fungi-based ingredients producer and distributor focused on providing innovative ingredients to companies that manufacture foods and beverages for the health and wellness market.
Griffin Sherwood Leads Arizona Roller Hockey Team to Win Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League Championship
Corona, CA – BE student Griffin Sherwood, Team President of the Arizona Roller Hockey Team, led Arizona to victory at the Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League Championship for their division on 5-6 March 2022. Arizona soundly beat the University of California Santa Barbara 10-3. The University of Arizona Roller Hockey team is a club sport with teams in two divisions that compete in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association.
